Positive psychology supports a preventative, upstream approach through its impacts on wellness. There is a direct link to positive thinking and a decreased risk for stroke, cancer, infection, and heart and lung disease (Dr. Eric Kim, as cited in Harvard Health Publishing). Positive affirmation in stressful situations leads to faster cardiovascular recovery (Kobau et al. 2011).

Positive psychology also impacts cognition. Broaden and Build Theory of Positive Emotions, suggests that positive emotions improve an individual’s attention span and expand cognition (Kobau et al. 2011).
